Losing It by RUSH
Author's Note: In this song from the 1980's, we examine the passing of our life, of what we once had and held so reverently. Now as we age, perspective is grown and life is never to be the same. Pay close attention to the symbolism used by song writer Neil Peart to describe aging and, eventually loss as this song progresses.
The dancer slows her frantic pace we, the living, slow our pace in life
In pain and desperation more and more difficult as the years pass
Her aching limbs and downcast face the weaker bodies and faces show their age
Aglow with perspiration the hard work shows over time
Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire the pace we can hold slows, stiffening with pain
With just the briefest pause
The flooding through her memory we relive the past, often
The echoes of old applause Ah yes, the memories we have, of adulation and praise
She limps across the floor even more difficult the journey
And closes her bedroom door... closing the door on a chapter in life
The writer stares with glassy eyes we may know what to do next
Defies the empty page cannot predict where we will go next in life
His beard is white, his face is lined signs of old age, usually seen as a weakened state
And streaked with tears of rage the frustration builds more and more because we are not what we once were
Thirty years ago, how the words would flow remembering the past, our heyday of success
With passion and precision nearly perfect and sharp
But now his mind is dark and dulled entering the time of a lost mind....
By sickness and indecision old-age forgetfulness or is it Alzheimer’s?
And he stares out the kitchen door we are helpless and unable to do the things we once did
Where the sun will rise no more... A symbol of death, when the sun stays down below the horizon, nightfall represents the end of what was once bright and hopeful…now sadness…
Some are born to move the world some are “chosen” to be the leaders, but are they really?
To live their fantasies for some it is only a dream, an illusion of power and fame
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be don’t we all dream to be..sports heroes, president and princesses when we are younger?
Sadder still to watch it die but, better to have loved and lost…
Than never to have known it than to never have loved at all
For you, the blind who once could see if now you cannot understand, but once could
The bell tolls for thee... wake up…it is your time!

Author's Note: We all need heroes to guide us, to give us faith that the good can triumph the bad, that the righteous can overcome the evil in our world
Mama, they try and break me. the naysayers continue to bid their negativity
The window burns to light the way back home go towards the light for goodness
A light that warms no matter where they've gone. warmth, comfort, happiness
They're off to find the hero of the day who will be the one to help save us?
But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way? what would happen if Evil triumphs?
Still the window burns, time so slowly turns we never lose faith or hope no matter how long it takes
Someone there is sighing perhaps frustrated, but never to give up
Keepers of the flames the good guys!
Do you feel your names? are you one of the good guys?
Do you hear your babies crying? the others we must help as well
Mama they try and break me
Still they try and break me negative continues to try to influence us
'Scuse me while I tend to how I feel to gather ourselves, regroup
These things return to me that still seem real the dreams, thoughts and ideas
Now deservingly this easy chair you have earned your spot on top due to hard work
But the rocking stops by wheels of despair ONLY IF YOU LET IT
Don't want your aid I want to try on my own to defeat the foe
But the fist I've made for years won't hold or feel but it get harder and harder to be strong
No I'm not all me I need others to be with me on this fight
So please excuse me while I tend to how I feel
But now the dreams and waking screams
The window burns to light the way back home go towards the light for goodness
A light that warms no matter where they've gone. warmth, comfort, happiness
They're off to find the hero of the day who will be the one to help save us?

One by U2
Author's Note: There are many meanings a song may have: the artist's intended meaning, the listener's perspective, or the "perhaps" unintended meaning. Here is one song to consider...U2's "One"
Is it getting better is your time here on the rise?
Or do you feel the same or are you stagnant, not changing or evolving?
Will it make it easier on you now do you need help in some way?
You got someone to blame is there a finger to point towards others?
You say...
One love all we need
One life all we have
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it if not nurtured and rekindled, LOVE will surely go away!
Did I disappoint you what could I have done better?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth a tough experience?
You act like you never had love or is it too tough to admit you have?
And you want me to go without selfishness?
Well it's...
Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light why hash over old things?
We're one, but we're not the same we are in this together, like or unlike
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other brotherly love, help fellow mankind
One... we are one people...worldwide, despite our obvious differences
Have you come here for forgiveness come or go to the source of your troubles
Have you come to raise the dead bring hope to those who have lost?
Have you come here to play Jesus do you wish to save all from despair?
To the lepers in your head for all your ills and misgivings
Did I ask too much could it be love?
More than a lot
You gave me nothing something I never should have asked for?
Now it's all I got better to have loved, than to have not
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again even though we may find strife in our lives, love keeps coming back because of how important it is!
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law love, especially for all the right reasons is why we exist!
You ask me to enter you say you love me, and want it in return
But then you make me crawl unrealistic expectations?
And I can't be holding on
To what you got I can only control what I do, not anyone else
When all you got is hurt pain, despair and loss
One love
One blood
One life we are ALL interconnected in some way, especially in the eyes of God
You got to do what you should THE GOLDEN RULE!
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers we are all...
One life the only one we need
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other Love your fellow man and woman, for eternity
One...life
One the only number!
Have a Nice Day by Bon Jovi
Author's Note: Reflecting on a song or a poem allows a person to interpret what meaning, perhaps, the author or lyricist intended when they published their works. This song may remind one of how life is too short to be grumpy, or sad, or pessimistic. I hope you have a nice day!
Why you wanna tell me how to live my life? Why worry about me so much?
Who are you to tell me if it's black or white? what is right or wrong?
Mama, can you hear me? Try to understand world...listen up! I have something to say that is important
Is innocence the difference between a boy and a man?
Who are you to tell me if it's black or white? what is right or wrong?
Mama, can you hear me? Try to understand world...listen up! I have something to say that is important
Is innocence the difference between a boy and a man?
My daddy lived a lie, it's just the price that he paid did he not follow his dream?
Sacrificed his life, just slavin' away gave everything he had to give
Sacrificed his life, just slavin' away gave everything he had to give
Ooh, if there's one thing I hang onto my faith, my goals, my dreams
That gets me through the night and into the light: a symbol of rebirth
I ain't gonna do what I don't want to I am going to make my choices, choose my path
I'm gonna live my life YES, that is the way!
That gets me through the night and into the light: a symbol of rebirth
I ain't gonna do what I don't want to I am going to make my choices, choose my path
I'm gonna live my life YES, that is the way!
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice It is easy to see me in a crowd, in a good way, making adjustments to life's challenges
Standing on the ledge, show the wind how to fly the ledge of choices, follow me, I know how to do it right!
When the world gets in my face when conflict comes to me
I say, have a nice day
Standing on the ledge, show the wind how to fly the ledge of choices, follow me, I know how to do it right!
When the world gets in my face when conflict comes to me
I say, have a nice day
Have a nice day
Take a look around you, nothing's what it seems be aware of the wicked, evil doers!
We're living in the broken home of hopes and dreams our world is in conflict between what is right and what is wrong
Let me be the first to shake a helping hand
We're living in the broken home of hopes and dreams our world is in conflict between what is right and what is wrong
Let me be the first to shake a helping hand
Anybody brave enough to take a stand and reach out to those who do what is right
I knocked on every door down every dead end street gather the followers of the righteous
Looking for forgiveness and what's left to believe? looking to the light, the new beginning
I knocked on every door down every dead end street gather the followers of the righteous
Looking for forgiveness and what's left to believe? looking to the light, the new beginning

Standing on the ledge, and show the wind how to fly BE A LEADER of others
When the world gets in my face when conflict comes toward my way
I say, have a nice day

When the world keeps trying, to drag me down push me away from my goals
I've gotta raise my hands, gonna stand my ground let my voice be heard
I say, hey, have a nice day
I've gotta raise my hands, gonna stand my ground let my voice be heard
I say, hey, have a nice day
Have a nice day, have a nice day
